I had tried updating the firmware on the Thunderbolt Dock, along with of course all other Lenovo and Windows Updates.

This was incredibly frustrating, especially considering my office setup where the laptop itself is kept on a shelf under my desk, out of the way, since I use a monitor + full size mouse and keyboard whenever I am working from my desk at home. The only solution I had was to unplug the computer from the dock and then plug it back in, which would usually, though not always, cause the monitor to work. Whether I allowed the computer to go to sleep, or to just turn off the display, I could not get my monitor (ASUS PB238, connected via HDMI) to come back on. I have been following this thread for a couple of weeks because I have had this exact issue.

I just bought a ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 with a Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock.
